FAQ:

How do I place a hold on an item from another library?

Search for the item in the library catalogue as usual, click “place a hold” and follow the directions. You will be notified when the item arrives for you.

Can I renew items from other libraries?

Yes, twice, as long as no one is waiting

What are the restrictions?

Requested items must have been in the library for at least a year. If the item you request is too new, you will get a pop-up message saying that the hold is not allowed.

Magazines and reference materials cannot be requested.

Can I request DVDs?

Yes, and CDs, and audiobooks. The only things that can’t be requested from most libraries are magazines and reference materials.

How long will it take for the item to arrive?

It depends. If the item is available at another library, it might take a few days. If the item is checked out, or other people are waiting,

it might take a few weeks.

What if I don’t see what I want?

You can still request books through Interlibrary Loan. Ask if you need help.

Why is this happening now?

Over the last few years, most libraries in the Kootenays have switched to the same computer system.

This allows us to share materials more easily. Working together, we can provide our members with

access to more materials than we can by working on our own. By sharing our resources, we can save

time and money that allow us to provide more materials, programs and services in our communities.

Can I place holds on items from libraries outside the Kootenays?

Not yet, but we hope this will be available soon!
